Minimally Invasive

Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

Traditionally spine surgery involves large incisions to access the spine and associated anatomy needed to treat various spinal conditions. Minimally invasive spine surgery is one of the latest advanced procedures used by surgeons. They are referred to as MIS. It allows the surgeons to reduce the incision size needed in surgery. Since, minimally invasive spine procedures require a smaller incision, it means that less damage is done to the muscles surrounding the spine.

Our team at Spine Physicians Institute first explores whether or not the non-surgical treatments can be prescribed before delving into the invasive procedures, however minimal. Non-invasive non-surgical methods include medication, physical therapy, use of braces etc.

These are two of the most commonly used minimally invasive spine procedures;

  • MIS Lumbar Discectomy
  • MIS Lumbar Fusion

Not all conditions can be effectively treated using minimally invasive spine surgery. Proper diagnosis must be made to ensure best possible treatment is provided.
