It could be a devastating loss for the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense as Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dontari Poe underwent back surgery last week to repair a herniated disc. While the injury occurred during the Chief’s voluntary offseason program, Poe aggravated it during a home workout on July 8. His surgery took place on July 15.
Chief’s trainer Rick Burkholder said, “He’s not doing a whole lot of rehab or treatment. He’s just resting. I’ve told the coaches we won’t talk about any more activity with Dontari until we get out of training camp.”
There’s a good chance Poe will miss part of the Chiefs’ opening season as well.
Coach Any Reid said, “It’s a positive thing, and it’s something he needed to get done, as opposed to have that other deal antagonize him throughout the season.”
