Chiefs Dontari Poe out for back surgery
It could be a devastating loss for the Kansas City Chiefs defense as Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dontari Poe underwent back surgery last week to repair a herniated disc. While the injury occurred during the Chief’s voluntary offseason program, Poe aggravated it during a home workout on July 8. His surgery took place on July 15.
Chief’s trainer Rick Burkholder said, “He’s not doing much rehab or treatment. He’s just resting. I’ve told the coaches we won’t discuss any more activity with Dontari until we get out of training camp.”
There’s a good chance Poe will also miss part of the Chiefs’ opening season.
Coach Andy Reid said, “It’s a positive thing, and it’s something he needed to get done, as opposed to having that other deal antagonize him throughout the season.”
